But when you go to check on them and their stats, you realise that these quiet little achievers are actually great money makers for your business.
You know the saying it’s the quiet ones you’ve got to watch. So I’m thinking lets build the biz muscle and get more of those product and services working for you.
We’ve all got those natural gifts—the stuff we’re just good at.
Some of us are total naturals at chatting with people and making instant connections.
Others shine in front of a camera like they were
born for the spotlight.
Some can style a space and snap scroll-stopping pics
without breaking a sweat.
And then there’s that one super-organised friend at work who’s special gift is to somehow know where every file is before you even finish asking.(can’t live without them)

These are what I like to call the muscle builders of business—the strengths we use without even thinking.
(no gym required here)
And funny enough… they’re often the money-makers too.
But in saying that sometimes the parts of the body like the big bicep component of your biz will come second place to the pinky to that is quietly hiding in your shoe of possibilities.
Ok enough of the body and gym analogies.
I’ll get to the point.
Your Stats Provide The Answer
So the other day I was going through my stats
(highly recommend todo this at least weekly with stats from all parts of your biz) and got a surprise at how some of my listings on my Template Shop were doing really well.
So back track 12 months when I reopened my Just Womens Business Etsy store last September.
I thought (and was suggested) that I should to stick to small business templates specializing in beauty salon, tanning and spa designs.
Now you probably know that I’m a beauty therapist so doing a few tanning templates was a given.
But for some reason the things that were selling were all related to spray tanning.
Pre and post tan templates, Instagram posts, flyers etc.
Go figure.
Pre and post tan Templates were $540 / 36 sales.
Stats for the Instagram Post Templates were $295 / 20 sales.
But I also decided to do a travel business card just for fun.
Stats for Travel Card Template were $90 / 9 sales.
And you can see even though the sales were small for the travel business card it got a little traction.
I also was emailed by a customer this week to make a large bundle just for travel. (more on that below as there’s a lesson there)

Assuming…..
A gift certificate was something I needed when I had my salon so I created a few of them, but doesn’t mean that everyone else needs or wants them.
The second template (middle above) gets so many hits on Pinterest yet the stats clearly show no sales on Etsy.
Though to be fair it could be the wording on the listing that isn’t cutting it, the thumbnail image, the colours but the sales do speak a bit about what is wanted and loved I think.
Conclusion
So my conclusion is that your product or service is more than likely solving a problem for your client.
In my Etsy Store, when people need a templates it’s to provide a solution to a problem.
- Time
Technical ability
Money
Frustration
Hassle
The Editable pre and post tanning template can be sent digitally as I created a Reel sized additional template to go with the 4 x 6 inch card sized template.(value adding and digital is awesome for time saving)
Sometimes it’s just unearthing overlooked products that sell. But often it’s the power of suggestion that can turn a simple product or service into a goldmine.
I trialed a travel gift card and was surprised.
It’ didn’t’ really cost me anything only a few hours of my time, but if it’s a winner can be re-sold over and over again.

Light Bulb Moment
In my salon we needed to fill in time during a facial treatment. We didn’t like to leave the client alone for 15 minutes while the mask was on.
So we included a hand or foot massage and added it during the mask time.
After a while I thought why not make this into a wonderful Luxe experience for our clients!
ADDING VALUE:
We added a
- frothy foot cleanse,
- exfoliation treatment with nourishing sugary mango exfoliants,
- removed it all with warm towels
- followed by a moisturizing full on half leg and foot massage.
- We then turned in to a new product, added it to the salon menu and called it our Foot Facial.
And sold lots of them.
They were a highly sought after treatment and all started as a time filler in a facial treatment.
Then added another product a Hand Facial! (well why not!)
So What Did I Do With The Travel Template Inquiry?
I wanted to let you know I didn’t end up doing the travel bundle for the customer who inquired. I was extremely flattered as she loved what I had already designed for my biz card in my template shop and felt a little funny when declining her request.
There were a few reasons.
Wasn’t my zone of genius
– The client wanted 25 products that I didn’t really know anything about. It would have been extremely time-consuming especially when I’m trying to be more productive in my business and choosing the right things to do with my time.
Expand on what I do know
– I could expand what was working like tanning templates I hadn’t gone into yet.
Bright Shiny Object Syndrome
– Not all things that look good area great use of your time.
And I didn’t feel it in my gut
– That’s a sign for me and I know I should always lean into that.
I hoped that I may have sparked how to find the hidden income of your business.
No need to always re-invent the wheel my friend,
