4 Tips To Sell Just About Anything

Aug 20, 2025 | Marketing | 0 comments

I’ve had to ask myself, could it be really true that you only need 4 tips to sell just about anything?

Is it really that easy? And I’m thinking well …..yes!

I always cringed at the thought of selling. The word selling made me think that I was forcing people into buying a product or service that they really didn’t want.

It often felt like I was gently twisting their arm—just enough to nudge them toward hitting that “pay now” button at checkout.

But selling is really telling people about a product or service that could be of help to them.

Marketing is the part that is painting the picture to show them how it can solve their problem and what that could really look like for them.

How things changed for me after watching the movie –

“Fly Me To The Moon”.

After watching Fly Me To The Moon with Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson, I realized you can literally market anything—yep, even the moon landing and NASA got the sales pitch treatment.

If you can sell outer space, you can sell just about anything!

Whether you believe that the moon landing was real or not isn’t really the crux of the blog post here, (I do love a good conspiracy theory though) but what this movie did open my eyes up to is the fun methods of marketing behind the event.

Even though I know that this storyline was written for a movie and I won’t dive deep into the plot, I’ll just tell you a bit of the backstory to give you a heads up and kind of set the scene.  (I won’t spoil it for you).

Plus if you love a witty rom-com, conspiracy thrills, ’60s music, and the mystery of “how on earth will they pull this off?” are your thing, you’ll be hooked from start to finish.

The Scene

It was in the 1960’s and Nasa was preparing the rockets and astronauts to make the first ever trip to fly to the moon.

Other countries were also trying to get there before America, so time was of the essence.

However, in the movie NASA wasn’t in a great place financially, struggling with breakdowns and mechanical difficulties and in need of a big cash infusion to make this happen.

Kelly Jones, played by Scarlett Johansson, made the idea of zooming into space so exciting that everyday people wanted in—and somehow convinced donors and the government to fund the whole adventure.

In the movie I found that Kelly Jones was clever at marketing but the four that really stood out for me were:

Emotion:

The world was allowed behind the scenes of NASA.  Interviews of those who worked there made you feel like you were sitting side by side with them through the process.

Connection:

Kelly Jones used everyday products to connect people to the astronauts.

  • Breakfast cereals,
  • Tang the breakfast drink in the 60’s,
  • Seiko watches

just to name a few. In the movie, she said “I’m going to make these men bigger than the Beatles”.

Visual:

Can’t sell a secret. NASA tours were organised to allow the public to come and experience a piece of space up and close.

Entertaining:

NASA became so interesting that it was almost like binge watching your favourite Netflix show.

You’re probably thinking oh, but this is all fiction. Kelly did use some…well…. you could say unorthodox ways to get what she wanted. (she had a big job on her hands plus it was a movie).

I’m not an advocate for doing anything fake to persuade a people to do things they normally wouldn’t do .But by using these 4 marketing tips you can paint a picture they may not normally think of.

THE BRIEF –Family Photo Shoot

How can we weave these 4 Tips To Sell Just About Anything?

This is how I’d imagine and envision a photoshoot reflecting emotion, connection, and entertainment.

Visual: Setting the Mood

Decide the mood you want to create to inspire your prospective clients.

  • Light filled balmy beach day,
  • Vintage country picnic near the farm
  • Nature inspired family bush walk.

Now to add more visual effects lets dress the clients in clothing that will create imagination.

  • Maybe matching gumboots for the whole family – think green grass, black and white cows in the background, white shirts and muddy boots.
  • Fairy dresses of pink, ochre and purple with lots of tulle and sequins reflecting off the backdrop of nature,
  • Or go seaside with fishing rods, bait buckets, bare feet, spades and striped towels on white sand.
  •
Connection: Laugh and good vibes

The whole family cracking up at a petting zoo surrounded by fluffy animals with a rogue duck on the loose. No stiff poses against a brick wall here – just natural, joy-filled moments that feel as fun as they look.

Emotion: a big drawcard in marketing

A family photoshoot might need a little sprinkle of those little touches that bring big smiles – like a favourite much loved child’s toy – yes even the manky looking one.

And of course, the family dog is basically a superstar guest who steals the show every time –guaranteed.

Entertaining: Blooper reel time.

Let’s be real – no family nails a photoshoot without a little chaos. Someone blinks, someone pulls a face, the dog steals the show… and that’s exactly what makes it so original.  Every family shoot is one-of-a-kind, bloopers and all – because perfect is boring and probs not even possible.  Your family is unique for sure.

By focusing on emotion, connection, and fun, the photoshoot becomes a tool to create marketing that truly speaks to the audience.

Asking Your Clients

Often the easiest way to market to your clients is asking them what they like.  Most people are eager to share what they desire and by asking they’re sure going to tell you. 😊
