The Secret to Business Growth (Choose the Outcome First)

You know that feeling where you’re trying a bit of everything in your business, posting here, creating and launching something new, quietly hoping something sticks and thinking this is the secret to business growth. .

It can feel like you’re working hard but not actually getting anywhere.

That’s because without  clear direction you’re essentially throwing spaghetti at the wall business style.

And I know first hand exactly how that feels.

The Core Problem

The truth is, if you don’t know where you’re going
it’s almost impossible to build something that actually grows.

My theory is it’s like throwing spaghetti at the wall business style hoping something sticks!

You’re making decisions on a reactive level instead of making your next steps lead somewhere.

Mindset Shift

Instead of asking….what should I be doing today…

Ask
Where am I trying to get to?

Because when you choose the outcome first everything changes. You stop guessing and start building and that’s the secret to business growth, choosing the outcome first and with purpose.

Reverse Engineering

When you know your end goal you can work backwards.

Almost like putting the final piece of a puzzle down first
and then filling in everything around it.

You’re no longer reacting to your circumstance but rather you’re creating a path but kind of in reverse.

So I’d love to do an example.

Let’s say your goal is to grow your email list.

Instead of randomly posting, crossing your fingers and hoping people see your freebie opt-in, and sign up to your email list, you get clear on the steps needed to make that happen.

Here’s what that actually looks like

Step 1 Choose your outcome

Grow your email list consistently.

Step 2 Work backwards

(my fave part)

To grow your list you need:

  1. a freebie people actually want (only needs to be simple and not a whole vault of freebies….I won’t mention any names here 🙄
  2. a simple opt in page
  3. a welcome email sequence (5 nurture emails and only need to be short ones)
  4. regular emails that keep people engaged

Step 3 Create visibility

Now you know you need to share your freebie on your social media and yikes I’ve often felt the choke here. But essentially it’s pretty simple and relatively easy to do.

You can

  • create a qr code with link to your freebie offer
  • add it to your website
  • mention it in your content
  • add it to the bottom of your blog posts
  • link it in your bio
  • invite people to join regularly

Step 4 Build connection

Encourage replies, just adding “hit reply to this email” works great!
Ask what they need help with (love this as it takes out the guessing of what to create content on)
create emails that solve real problems

Now you’re not guessing you’re following a clear path and you wake up in the morning thinking….I know exactly what I have to do today.

This works for anything in your business

More bookings
More sales
More engagement
Launching a new offer

The key is choosing the destination first and then reverse engineering the steps.

Clarity creates momentum

So instead of asking what should I try next or following what the latest Tick Tock video is doing…decide first where you’re going and you can start building your way there.

The secret to business growth isn’t always about doing more but doing it in the right steps. Even if it’s going backwards it’s actually moving you forwards.
